STEPTOE AND SON film [7.1.72]
It's very difficult to imagine either Harold or his father playing a honky tonk piano but that's how this film version of the TV series attempts to "improve" upon the award winning arrangement of Grainer's original 1962 signature tune. The movies incidental music was written by Roy Budd and Jack Fishman.
THE TRAIN NOW STANDING [20.5.1972]
Folksy weekly comedy built around
the personal of a rural English railway station. Grainer's charming
series theme is relaxed and pastoral with clarinet, piano, French
horn, harpsichord and a chamber orchestra.
MUTINY ON THE BUSES film [9.6.1972]
A curious decision by the producers
of this movie spin off of the popular TV comedy series “On the
Buses” was to have a new credits tune and incidental music written
by Grainer and it must be admitted Tony Russell's original series
theme does sound rather “pedestrian” when compared to the
clarinet, banjo and nimble fingered piano accordion tune that replaced it.
